Scholarship support shows Cass County’s true ‘heart’

To the editor:

This past Saturday The Inspiration Scholarship Foundation hosted its second annual dessert theater, “For Better Or For Worse,” at Southwestern Michigan College.

The theater included a night of performances by volunteer actors as well as the Southwestern Michigan Select Choir and desserts from S’Wonderful Confections of Niles.

By the end of the evening, not only had the cast of the play collected smiles and laughs from the audience, but the foundation raised over $1,000, which will enable it to provide a $1,000 scholarship next month to a single parent attending SMC through the Mary J. Wilkinson Scholarship Fund.

At a time when so many members of our local community are experiencing the negative impact of the current economy, the fact that so many members of our community made a point to support a scholarship fund by either attending the theater or making a donation speaks volumes about the true heart of Cass County.

The members of our local community who supported the dessert theater this past Saturday revealed that the residents of Cass County are dedicated to helping others and to supporting those who dream of pursuing a college degree.

A simple “thank you” truly seems woefully inadequate in comparison to the impact that the kindness and generosity of supporters of the dessert theater will soon have on the SMC student who will receive the $1,000 scholarship generated from the dessert theater.

But still, on behalf of the board of directors for The Inspiration Scholarship Foundation, I do want to thank all of those who attended the dessert theater and all of those who sponsored the event including: Mr. and Mrs. Terry Ausra, Caribbean Auto Spa, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Clupper, Dr. and Mrs. Matthew Cripe, Eckman Chiropractic Clinic, Judd Lumber, Dr. and Mrs. Fred Mathews, Preferred Printing, Ridge NAPA Auto Parts and Dr. Brad Sandler. Thank you for helping us continue to provide scholarships to deserving and inspiring individuals.
