EAU CLAIRE – Berrien County authorities arrested an Eau Claire High School junior for making a bomb threat Monday as a “joke.”

Sgt. Rick Biggart of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office reported the threat was made by stolen cell phone at 11:32 a.m. Nov. 23 to the Berrien County Public Safety Communications Center.

Agencies also involved in the incident included the Eau Claire Police Department, the Eau Claire-Pipestone Township Fire Department, Medic I ambulance and Michigan State Police.

Biggart said Master Burnett, 17, of Benton Harbor, a junior at ECHS, admitted to investigating officers he did this as a “joke.”

Eau Claire school officials evacuated the high school.

School was delayed for about two hours.

During the investigation, it was learned that Burnett used a stolen cell phone to place the false bomb threat.

Officials conducted a search of the school, but found nothing suspicious.

Burnett was lodged at Berrien County Jail on the charges of false report of a bomb threat – a four-year felony – and possession of stolen property.
