U.S. Rep. Fred Upton: A season of thanks

Published 6:00am Thursday, November 26, 2009

This week, folks across southwest Michigan and the entire country pause from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives to gather with family and friends in celebration of Thanksgiving.

It is this special time of year when folks brave relentless highway gridlock and teeming airports and train stations to reunite with their loved ones for a few days of celebration and reflection – reliving old memories and making new ones.

My son Stephen, a senior in high school, is anxious for a break from school and my wife Amey and I are looking forward to having our daughter Meg home from college for a few days.

Our kids are growing up so quickly, and it is these times with the entire family together that mean the most.

Even with the challenges that our country faces here at home and around the world, we all have so much to give thanks for this holiday season.

Pocketbooks are surely tighter this year, but times shared with family are priceless.
Our thoughts and prayers are also with our nation’s brave servicemen and women who are serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and across the globe.

We thank all our courageous soldiers and their families who have made tremendous sacrifices so that we may continue to enjoy our freedom and security here at home.

We are all proud of them and profoundly grateful for their service. I wish a safe, happy and healthy Thanksgiving holiday to you and your loved ones.

U.S. Rep. Fred Upton of St. Joseph represents District 6, which includes Cass County.
