Monday, August 25, 2008 11:04 AM EDT

ALBION - Clay Hewitt, a freshman from Dowagiac, has earned a spot on the Albion College men's soccer varsity roster, coach Jerry Block has announced.

Twenty players were named to the varsity roster for the 2008 season.

Albion opens the season Sept. 2 with a non-league match at Manchester (Ind.) College. The Britons will travel to Ohio the weekend of Sept. 6-7 for contests against DePauw (Ind.) University and Denison (Ohio) University.

Albion's only home non-league match is Sept. 13 when it tangles with local rival Spring Arbor University. The Britons will also play each of their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals at home under the league's double round robin format.

Hewitt is the son of Larry Hewitt and Julie Hewitt of Dowagiac and a graduate of Dowagiac Union High School. Hewitt will begin his first-year at Albion when fall semester classes begin today.
